The largest plant and tool hire company in the area – and a true family firm

When Roy and Dorothy Hawes started the business back in 1974, we weren’t a tool hire company, but a small haulage firm. Our first vehicle was a Ford D series tipper, followed by a JCB and a Caterpillar excavator, with Roy acting as owner / driver hiring himself out to contractors.

We moved into our present premises on the outskirts of High Wycombe, Bucks in 1980 and expanded into tool hire. Today, we’re one of the biggest tool hire companies in the Thames Valley and across the South East.

We run over 30 vehicles for both plant hire and skip hire, ranging from articulated lorries to small pick-ups. We also have a vast modern range of plant and machinery, including excavators, dumpers, rollers and much more. Everything, in fact, you need to run a building site or perform household DIY jobs.

Roy and Dorothy have four sons, Roy (junior), Dene, Daniel and Kelvin. All of them work in the business and all have had hands on experience of various parts of it, including HGV driving and plant operation. Although we no longer offer a groundworks service, Roy (senior) has a vast knowledge of this and is always on hand to offer advice to builders and contractors.
